To the Editor:

This past May, Deb Calvert announced her candidacy for reelection to the Minnetonka City Council At-Large Seat A; in that role she has served the residents of our city since 2018.

Deb has worked tirelessly to be a positive force that meets the needs of our community. I can only speak for myself and no one else, but I am also the chair of the Minnetonka Sustainability Commission. As such, I know Deb strives every day to make Minnetonka “an inclusive community committed to excellence where all residents, workers and visitors are welcome in a beautiful, sustainable place, supported by quality, dependable city services.” To be specific, Deb advocated for and passed a stronger tree protection ordinance. Deb promoted green building practices from developers. She proudly supported the formation of Minnetonka’s Sustainability Commission in May 2021. She supported an amendment to the pollinator lawn ordinance in 2020 which enables alternatives to turf grass and promotes pollinators, as well as an ordinance amendment requiring 25% native plants in new development landscaping. Deb and other members of the city council supported the City’s work to achieve Minnetonka’s designation as a Tree City, Monarch Champion City and a Green Steps 4 and 5 City. She supported and voted for the city’s participation in Xcel Energy’s community solar garden program and the installation of solar cells at several city buildings, saving taxpayers money on energy, while reducing pollution.

Deb also serves on the National League of Cities Energy Environment and Natural Resources Committee, advocating for good environmental policy, and learning about and sharing best practices with environmental policy makers from across the country.

Deb has gained experience and knowledge from her two terms as a city councilmember at large, plus her committee work. Her record demonstrates her commitment to advance sound fiscal management; environmental initiatives; quality services and infrastructure; a thriving business climate, effective partnerships; and housing that is affordable for everyone who wants to call Minnetonka home.

Deb is running for reelection because she deeply cares about our city. I strongly believe Deb has earned our vote in 2025.
