In this time of dramatic change Minnetonka is a model of stable, well-run government because of strong, nonpartisan leadership. Calvert has worked hard to be a positive force within that proven leadership since her election to the council in 2017. She believes good leadership requires communication, collaboration, and creative solutions to meet the evolving needs of our community while preserving our city’s quiet, tree-lined suburban character.

Previously, Calvert served as vice chair on the Minnetonka Planning Commission. Calvert currently serves on the National League of Cities Energy Environment and Natural Resources Committee, the League of Minnesota Cities Improving Service Delivery Committee, and the Metro Cities Metro Agency Committee. She is the council liaison to the Minnetonka Economic Development Commission and the Minnetonka Family Collaborative and is the chair of the Southwest Suburban Cable Commission. Calvert said, “I’ve gained invaluable experience and knowledge from my first two terms as City Councilmember at large, as well as from my committee work and career. My record proves my commitment to advance sound fiscal management; environmental initiatives; quality services and infrastructure; a thriving business climate, effective partnerships; and housing that is affordable to the people who want to call Minnetonka home – our seniors, families, first responders, teachers, nurses, and business employees.”

In Calvert’s view, “All my neighbors should experience a sense of belonging and security, where everyone enjoys a thriving environment and economy that thrive. The city has made great strides, and, if re-elected, I will continue this important work.” Professionally, Calvert is the administrative manager for the City of Saint Paul Finance Department. Previously, she worked at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and served in the state office of U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Calvert concluded, ”I am running for re-election to Minnetonka City Council because l love my city and would be humbled and proud to continue to serve it. I greatly value my connections to leaders around the country which enable me to learn about and advocate for best practices and good policy, and I will continue to base my decisions on community input, the facts, and the needs of our city. ”

Calvert and her husband, Valdo, a retired wildland firefighter and emergency manager, have lived in Minnetonka for 22 years. They have two adult children Rachel and Ben, and rescue dogs ChaCha and Shadow. Contact Calvert at deb@debcalvert.org or 612-205-5399.
